On Oct. 18th, 2008 we found a tarantula on the balcony of our apartment.

I called the leasing office to see if this was a common thing and they said it was and to please not kill it as they help to keep the scorpion and black widow population down.

I wouldn’t have killed it anyway, and it seemed very timid and non aggressive. I couldn’t leave it on the balcony though because I was afraid it would be poisoned by the chemical I spray to keep the scorpions away.

I’ve had some experience with tarantulas because I used to date a guy who kept them as pets so I lived in the same apartment with several of them for years.

I put on some gloves and carefully collected it into the glass bowl and covered it so I could get a few photos.

I then took it up to the mountain behind the apartment and set it free in an area where there are a good many crickets, small lizards, scorpions, ect. I like to think he had a good dinner !
