Woke up to find mouse shit on my kitchen floor (again) recently.. I think it’s time to find another apartment since the lease is almost up. :(

(Note: I rented this place sight-unseen while I was still in Scottsdale last summer..)

Whether you are starting a new job, going to a new college, or just want a change of scenery, nice Durham, North Carolina apartments won’t be hard to find. Renting an apartment is a quick and easy process – you could be dropped in a completely distant town in the morning, and have a place to stay by nightfall – or to be completely honest – very shortly.

Durham, NC apartments are plentiful and available in all price ranges in a town with a thriving economy where new apartment buildings are going up rapidly. So you shouldn’t encounter any shortage of apartments, but if you have never rented an apartment before, here are a few helpful guidelines.

If you are a young person, moving out on your own for the first time, then you are no doubt eager to find an apartment. But you may be inexperienced and even a little clueless about the process, so it’s best to have a full plan formulated before you walk out the door to get started.

The first step in finding a nice apartment is to determine your price range. Figure out what amount is “do-able” for rent, after considering the rest of your bills and financial obligations. When your monthly rental payment amount is alloted, you can start to look at the local options within that price range.

The biggest sources for Durham apartments are the local newspapers and yellow pages and online rental apartment listings. When you start looking around, you will begin to determine what amenities are available at the current price you can afford.

Apartment leases are generally for a year, but if you discuss it with the landlord you may be able to negotiate a longer or shorter period of time. You will be informed of all the rules of the apartment building, such as their policies on pets or utilities. You will also be asked to pay a deposit, which is usually equal to 1-3 months worth of rent. Overall, the process of renting a Durham, North Carolina apartment is fairly easy. It just takes some time and effort.
