Suburbs all over this country are replacing the public space of urban downtowns with the completely regulated pseudo-public spaces of places like Crocker Park. It’s not public if it’s owned by a company and regulated by a private security force. Welcome to the downtown simulacrum. American freedom has turned into a freedom to shop. These new outdoor malls will no doubt give way to a new trend in indoor malls again when people realize places like Cleveland get freezing cold half the year.
I watched this little shopping center grow up. sob sob. Its all grown up now.
